Magazines: Front cover production task - learner response

Magazines: Front cover production task - learner response

1) Add your finished magazine cover as a JPEG image.

2) Type up your feedback from your teacher. If you've received this by email, you can copy and paste it across - WWW and EBI. You don't need to include a mark or grade if you don't want to.

Mark out of 15 for Media Language: 10 - Level 4

WWW: Alezey, your Vogue magazine front cover product is good, and you demonstrate good application of knowledge and understanding of media language as evidenced by your choice of colour scheme, layout and cover lines focus. The cover models pose is quite suitable to your intended target audience which highlights your ability to research and plan a suitable design. These elements are clearly communicated and would engage a potential target audience.

EBI: I understand your decision to combine elements of both Vogue and Allure magazines, but the brief was to recreate one magazine brand. I think you may have been slightly better off trying to recreate Teen Vogue instead, but what you’ve produced is still good. I totally agree with your evaluative comments about the length of your cover lines which demonstrates your ability to reflect on your work.

3) Consider your mark against the mark scheme. What are the strengths of your production based on the the mark scheme? Think about magazine cover conventions and the media language techniques you have used to communicate with your audience (e.g. mise-en-scene, camera shot etc.) Notice the focus on narrative in the mark scheme for Media language.

- cross-media production that constructs effective narratives, like action code with the nature combined with the cover line, and also the position of Leeya in the middle and facial expression is eye catching to a female audience.

4) Look at the mark scheme again. What can you do to move your mark higher and, if required, move up a level?

- Excellent application of knowledge and understanding of media language, demonstrated by the consistently appropriate and effective selection and combination of elements to communicate very clear meanings throughout the products.

5) What would be one piece of advice you would give a student about to start the same magazine cover project you have just completed?

- Try to incorporate many cross media productions to do with the magazine you want to create, e.g mysterious type of magazine? add enigma codes; and fashion magazines add action codes + small details that would appeal to your intended audience (target audience). Also thinking about the colour scheme that would suit the magazine and be eye-catching towards an audience.
