INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA

1) Why did you choose A Level Media Studies?

I chose A level Media Studies because I already have some previous skills from a related GCSE called Creative imedia, while they aren't exactly the most similar, I wanted to develop my media knowledge, especially learning more about social media and films. I also think it’s an important subject and has an essence to everyday life and will be useful for the future.

2) Did you take GCSE Media Studies (either here at Greenford or a different school)?

No, although I did take Creative imedia (At Brentside High School), it had aligned with a similar topic to Media Studies which is Film and TV.

3) If you answered yes to Q2, what grade did you achieve in GCSE Media? What coursework task did you complete? What would you say your strengths and weaknesses were in GCSE Media?

The grade I achieved in Creative imedia was a different system of grading, I achieved a L2Pa which is equivalent to a 4/5

4) What grade do you hope to achieve in A Level Media?

I hope to achieve an A

5) What are your current thoughts about your next steps after A Levels - university,

apprenticeship, work?

My current thoughts after A levels are to enroll in a university, and the course I want to do is Palaeontology and Geology (3 years) , as I want to pursue a career in ichnology which is a specialised job in Palaeontology, It doesn’t relate with Media Studies - (I still feel it’s a good A level and develops knowledge as it brings many opinions).

6) What do you think the biggest MEDIA story of 2025 has been and why?

I still think the Gaza and Israel conflict has dragged to this year, and is still ongoing, and there's still a lot of arguments on social media.

7) What media sources do you use to find out about news and current affairs?

I don't use online news reports much, I would normally see current affairs on social media like TikTok or Instagram, but unreliability is normally common so I would therefore go on a search engine like Google and do my research about it and find sources. I don't have any particular websites to use specifically for news and current affairs.

8) What was the last film you watched?

The last film I watched was Jurassic World: Rebirth

9) What is your favourite ever TV series?

My favourite TV series includes: Michiko and Hatchin which is a brazilian anime made in 2008.

10) How many hours do you spend online in an average day? Is this too little, too much or about right? Why? (If you have an iPhone you can use Screen Time to get an accurate figure of how much you use your phone).

My average screen time last week was 11 hours and 30 minutes per day. This is definitely a lot and should be lowered, however I could increase my media consumption.
